Man fined for killing birds A QUARRY owner who killed up to 40 young sand martins by bulldozing their whole nesting colony was fined yesterday. Andrew Jackson knocked down a colony containing about 300 nests while the protected birds were still in their breeding season. Jackson, 59, of South Orchil, Braco, was warned by birdwatchers that the colony should be left standing until September - but moved in with a bulldozer on 11 August. In the first case of its kind, the farmer admitted intentionally destroying the nests and killing up to 40 chicks and fledglings, Perth Sheriff Court heard.
