RSPB Rye Meads FeaturedRye Meads RSPB reserve is a small wetland reserve in the Lee Valley, Hertfordshire, adjacent to the river itself and is managed jointly by the RSPB and the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust. RSPB Rye Meads is situated in a largely urban area, and is used largely for educational visits from schools. It has an artificial Kingfisher bank that was occupied by breeding birds before it was completed. Common terns nest on specially-created rafts during the summer, and you can hear Cetti's warbler. If it is wildlife really close you are after, then butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies put on quite a show. This delightful reserve has a welcoming visitor centre, where you can watch the bird feeding area for close-up views of garden birds. The whole area is full of interest for all the family; the 100 acre reserve, historic Rye House Gatehouse and a public house nearby. Great for family trip, visit this delightful wetland reserve beside the River Lee. Rye Meads is a favourite with walkers, birdwatchers and photographers too. Map
