These rocky islands were once home to saints, soldiers and famous lighthouse keepers, and now a sanctuary for seabirds and seals. Farne Islands are a summer haven for 100,000 pairs of nesting seabirds like puffin and guillemot as well as being one of Europe's largest grey seal colonies. Farne Islands offer unrivalled wildlife photo-opportunities as well as being a top spot for sea-kayaking and diving. St Cuthbert lived and died here in the 7th century and is the location of Victorian heroine Grace Darling's stormy sea rescue. Map
