College Lake FeaturedCollege Lake Nature Reserve used to be a 200 acre disused chalk quarry. It is now a unique nature reserve managed by the Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. A mosaic of contrasting habitats has been created from the bare chalk supporting over 1000 species and providing excellent birding. Redshank, lapwing and common tern have all bred successfully, and butterflies, such as marbled white, are being seen in good numbers. The first of the autumn migrating birds have been seen at College Lake, including greenshank, common sandpiper and black tailed godwit. Polecats have also been seen at College Lake. College Lake’s diverse habitats, including marshland and chalk grassland, draw a wide range of wildlife from near and far, and the farming and wildlife display, wildlife garden and picnic areas make it a great place for the nature-hunter and young families alike.
