You will see birds here at any time, but high tides from autumn to spring are best for roosting wading birds: the bigger the tide the better the spectacle. In winter there are brent geese, birds of prey, twites, corn buntings, rock pipits and, with luck, Lapland buntings. In summer, large numbers of redshanks breed at an exceptionally high density. Other breeding species include oystercatchers, skylarks and reed buntings. Marsh harriers can frequently be seen hunting over the reserve.
