Campfield Marsh, on the Solway estuary, has saltmarsh, wet grassland and areas of open water. At high tide, thousands of wading birds including oystercatchers, knots, grey plovers and bar-tailed godwits roost. In the winter, wildfowl use the grassland and open water areas. The wader roost can be seen from the lay-bys along the road edging the estuary and saltmarsh.
