Northeren Ireland consists predominantly of agricultural, lake and
mountain habitats. Northern Ireland consists of six counties: County
Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County
Londonderry and County Tyrone.
The reserve is a mix of coniferous forest and 40 islands in Lower Lough Erne. The breeding birds of the reserve include snipe, redshanks, curlews and Sandwich terns. In winter, whooper swans and wigeons can be found.

Strangford Lough attracts vast numbers of wildfowl, waders, gulls
and auks which overwinter on the Lough or stage here. Around 70,000
birds are present each winter.

Northern Ireland, in addition to the many wildlife areas that the Trust
has helped landowners to set up for the benefit of wildlife.
