Over 10 acres in extent, the reserve sits in a remote part of the
countryside. It contains a good example of acid fen, bog and wet meadow
that abuts onto the surrounding moors and remaining wild woods.
The
reserve is cris-crossed with boggy pools and overflow streams from the
adjacent river, this swampy terrain making parts relatively
inaccessible to humans. As a consequence it is capable of supporting
quite an astounding cross-section our native wildlife.
