An eco-hotel built by Geoffrey Bawa, this hotel has to seen to be believed.
The vegetation has reclaimed every external surface. It is constructed into the hillside with wings coming off, hotel reception is a gash in the hillside and access the main hotel is via a tunnel through a ridge of the hill. The entire hotel is open to the jungle except the bedrooms, bars and dinning area, bedrooms and bathrooms have floor to ceiling glass walls over looking the lake, giving a feeling of a zoo in reverse (the wildlife sits on your balcony observing YOU), lizards stalk moths by the lights in the corridors at night and bats come whistling round the corners. The lower bar gives views across the infinity pool over the lake, while the dinning room and upper bar are on the top floor affording stunning views of the whole area. The wife was concerned of insects in the rooms before booking but needn’t have worried, the entire hotel was spotless and the service 1st class. The hotel shop sells arts and crafts from local villages, breakfast bird watching walks. Jungle walks and Elephant safaris were all available from the hotel. The timing of any visit is crucial as the lake or tank is used for local water supplies and irrigation we arrived just after monsoon so the lake was full but or guide informed us later in the year there can be very little water. bymerlin, September 11, 2009

As has been said before this is a must for anyone interested in bird identification. Known in birding circles simply as The Bible.
