Thumbs up Red Kites in the UK

Hi Graeme,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your post.

Not so long ago, Red Kites used only to be found in Wales and there are plenty of places to see them them there. Try Gigrin Farm near Builth Wells for a Welsh Red Kite hot spot.

From 1989 to 1994, Red Kites from Spain were imported and released into the Chilterns by the RSPB and English Nature. Red Kites started breeding in the Chilterns in 1992 and now there are over 300 breeding pairs.

They are now back in many parts of England and Scotland. The Chilterns and central Scotland at Argaty, [Argaty map] and along the Galloway Kite Trail [Galloway Map] are the best areas to find them.

Red Kites eat carrion, worms and small mammals.
