Hi Paul

I read your post with interest, it's very difficult to say what birds will appear in a particular garden. Part of the reason is knowing the movements of birds at a particular site, I know people who have put out all sorts of feeders yet they don't get the same amount or as many species as a garden a few doors along the same road with onlty a peanut feeder out. Birds see things way different from us and obviously see potential in one garden over another with no obvious differences (in our eyes anyway).

Certain birds have patchy distribution and very local movements so would require local knowledge to know where these birds are and which areas they prefer to feed.

Summer migrants are again unpredictable when migrating, they stay in some areas longer than others and some species have traditional stop off areas and can move through other areas before anyone knows they are present.

I can predict which birds will appear in my area with reasonable accuracy through years of studying them but couldn't predict which garden they will appear in although I could probably make an educated guess but that's all it would be.

Hope this makes sense

cheers, John
