Yes, this is a very good bird book. I bought my copy in 1978 but no doubt it's been updated from time to time since. My first entry in 1978 on the blank page at the back of my copy reads, saw first Swallows and House Martins 23rd April, heard first Cuckoo 23rd April and saw first Swifts 11th May. I have made entries every year since 1978.

Geoff.

The classic Reader's Digest Book of British Birds captures the free and fascinating life of the birds that fill our skies. At the same time, it satisfies our desire to understand bird behaviour and to recognise different species. Combining up-to-date data with evocative descriptions and beautiful illustrations, the Reader's Digest Book of British Birds will inform, delight and entertain. Aspects of Bird behaviour are explained and explored, as well as practical facts about the habits and habitats of the 217 species commonly found in Britain. There are also illustrations and brief descriptions of a further 117 rarer species whose irregular visits to the British Isles add to the excitement of the birdwatcher's year. A census of birds is included, and you will find out how to identify birds by their shape and colour and by their flight action. The book also offers insights into how birds evolved, the principles of flight, the way in which birds navigate, and how they see and hear. Whether you're a novice or an experienced birdwatcher, the Reader's Digest Book of British Birds will increase your enjoyment and knowledge of the open sky above our land and the thronging bird life that populates it.

Well spotted!

I think it must be judging by the fact that it has 472 pages.
