Default 2011 bird list off to a cracker

Decided to do my first ever bird list for the year.

Without leaving my parents house I've already hit 15 with the highlights being a Greater Spotted woodpecker, Redwing and Sparrowhawk!

Really chuffed.

Thanks. I'm aiming for about 120 this year which may be ambitious. My total overall is 156 and with 2 youngsters my trips are limited. Anyway, looking forward to seeing old birds 'for the first time'.

I got three types of gull, three corvids, three types of pigeon/dove, blackbird, lapwing, dunlin, redshank, turnstone, curlew, shelduck, mallard, goldfinch, starlings, house sparrows, long-tailed, blue, and great tits and two short-eared owls, a lifer.

24 species, not a bad start to my first ever year list.

My first day is a list of 5. Starling (seen 40 minutes after midnight when we went out to look at fireworks!) Black headed gull, Blue tit, Collard Dove and Woodpigeon.

Spent the afternoon at the football (a brilliant 1-0 win to my team- Gillingham) so didn't really get out, and will be spending a large part of tomorrow on the train, so my first proper outing will be on Monday!

Green-Winged Teal was the star today, I left this bird from last year and GOT IT,
Not to bad a start, Common Redpoll (mealy) proving to be sticky, due to Sparrow Hawk. Got all the Thrushs, Perigrine was a surprise going down the street, 60+ for a start.
