Default Gadget Question

Ok im not sure how to explain this, but here goes i was walking round Leighton Moss i bumped into this guy, who had in his hand what looked like a mobile phone im not sure wether it was a phone or not (wish id asked him now) anyway he was playing bird sounds on it he had them all he just went to a list of bird names and it played the bird song of his choice, he told me there was also a sat nav on it among other things called aps, now i want to walk into a shop to try one out, what was it do i go into a phone shop/a computer shop ??? thanks for looking...Ray

It could've been a phone or a computer Ray, but my bet would be a 'smartphone' or I-phone which is basically a mix of both.

A computer shop or a phone shop would be able to help, the two sectors will be indistunguishable within a few years I reckon.

Ray, it's a bit complicated. first you have to obtain the device (the I-phone, for example), and then you need to get the 'app' (short for application) from the internet (using the device).

The phone shop will be able to help you, I am sure.

But don't let them sell you a phone you don't want or need. This will run on the iPodtouch, a much cheaper device. It's still going to cost you 150 to do this though and if this is all you want it for then it's up to you.

Do Apps like this run on a standard I Pod??? as I was thinking of treating myself with some xmas/birthday money.

This is outside my area of experince because I am not an apple user, but apps like the one above are suitable for iPod touch, iPhone and iPad. They won't run on a regular iPod music player.
