Default Mid winter walk

As part of our get fit after Christmas, my wife and I have starting going for walks on Sunday afternoons. I've not managed to do much birdwatching recently with starting my new job, and my years total so far has barely reached the teens!

We went for a meal at a place called Newmillerdam and a 3 hour walk today and managed to add a few birds to my list, Long Tailed Tit, Coot, Tufted Duck, Moorhen, Chaffinch (yep, hadn't even seen a Chaffinch until today!) but the best moment of the day was when my wife suggested we take a longer path away from the lake and in to the woods. I spotted a Nuthatch, a bird I've not seen for about 7 years. I had no idea we had some living so close! The last time I saw them was in a park in Manchester! I didn't have my camera with me, but I don't think it would have made much difference as it was moving very fast.

A lovely walk today, much better than last week when it was approaching minus numbers. Then we saw 2 swans, a Kestrel and some Mallards. Which was impressive considering the water was frozen! Hoping for some more next Sunday!

Glad to read your Sunday walk produced a new species for you Andrew,it's amazing just what is on our doorsteps isn't it......tho I also thought that there were no Nuthatches over the border!

We went for a walk there on the day I asked her to marry me, though I did that at Sandal castle. Such a lovely place!
