Smile RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is this weekend though I doubt any memebers on the forum would not know this!

Hope the weather is sunny, cool and dry, that should bring a few birdies flocking to our gardens.

I will post my results on this thread be they good or dire.lol!

Please feel free to post your results if you participate.

Our local birds must know this too, they seem to have disappeared!
Last year we were able to report just a few Blue Tits.

This is my first year, I've turned down a days overtime tomorrow to take part in this survey so I hope the local birds appreciate my sacrifice and turn up to be counted

Well I counted between 8 and 9 AM and the results were a little strange
The most birds at any one time was

House Sparrow 10
Woodpigeon 9
Blackbird 4
Blue Tit 3
Great Tit 2
Long Tailed Tit 2
Magpie 2
Collared Dove 2
Coal Tit 1
Dunnock 1
Chaffinch 1
Robin 1
Jay 1

I was expecting less Woodpigeons and more Blue and Great Tits, shame the Woodpeckers, Nuthatches or Redpoll didn't show but they do tend to visit later in the day.

A good list there Darryl!

My count in order of appearance and taken 8.30am-9.30am.

Great Tit - 2
Blackcap (f)-1
Coal Tit - 1
Magpie -1
Robin -2
Blackbird -3
Crow -4
Feral Pigeon- 1
Woodpigeon-4
Dunnock -2
Wren -1
Blue Tit -2

I am quite pleased with the count as it is fairly indicative of my daily visitors through Winter though the Wren has only this last week been spotted almost daily. Woodpigeon count is way down as I get an average of 14+ daily, I reckon a Sparrowhawk was lurking as my garden went quiet for almost 30 minutes during the count.

I may have another go tomorrow morning and compare the counts.

Did mine in two stints, either side of gardening. I'm sure that's not cheating too much.

Very quiet day although I am glad the Little Owl was in it's usual roost and flew past me when I went to the shed.

Blue tit 6
Carrion crow 5
Chaffinch 10
Collared dove 2
Dunnock 1
Goldfinch 10
Great tit 2
Greenfinch 1
Jackdaw 2
Robin 1
Woodpigeon 1
Wren 1
Scarcer birds
Little owl 1
Pheasant 1
Pied wagtail 1
Red-legged partridge 6
