Werneth Low Country Park

The country park extends for 80 hectares (200 acres) across the Northern and Western slopes of Werneth Low. Only 15 kilometres (9.5 miles) from the city centre of Manchester, the area is both a haven for wildlife and an area where visitors can find peace and relaxation. The park's location provides panoramic views across Manchester and beyond to Liverpool. The dark blue silhouette of the Welsh mountains can often be seen on clear days, as can the Pennine hills close by.

Birdwatching here can produce Skylark, Meadow Pipit, Snipe and Linnet amongst the usuals, winter thrushes can number in the hundreds feeding up on Hawthorns. The best birding is in spring and autumn, with luck many of the passage migrants heading to the moors or to the north or on return*could be seen. But the best time of day is very early morning to avoid disturbance to the birds*as the park is very popular with locals.*
