Nicaragua Montecristo River Lodge

Montecristo River Lodge is located inside Montecristo's own private reserve and wildlife refuge, and close to the national Reserve Indio-Maiz. In its 120 plus acres of land, you will find gardens, small organic plantations of cacao, coffee, fruits and vanilla. We have planted thousands of trees for re-forestation's. We also raise horses for local tours. We have more than 8.5 Km of trail and 2 hectare of primary rain forest.

We operate a wild life rescue center, we have release macaws, ocelots, jaguars, wild pigs, white tail deer, green lizards, ñocas, river turtle. We eliminated all the animal cages, and converted our zoo space into a green plants nursery.

Montecristo River Lodge is located 43km down the river from San Carlos, Rio San Juan, Nicaragua, between the jungle river port town of Boca de Sabalos and the historic town of El Castillo. In front of the Sombrero de Cuero Island. The lodge sits at the entrance of Reserva Silvestre Privada Montecristo, a private Wild Life Refuge.

Walk a series of trails for hiking through primary rain forest, secondary growth and open land where you can see monkeys, toucans and parrots in their natural habitat and wild flowers of all kinds! It offers a wide variety of habitats to explore. A nocturnal walk is also available and may produce sightings.

The Oropendola, the Parakeets. Wood-Warblers and hummingbirds are always at the lodge, and the sounds of Flycatcher and other birds abound. We can provide local guide to show you where the birds are in the locality, for you to identify.
