Default Monopods

Do any of you guys out there use a monopod? If so which have you got and what's your opinion of them? Thinking of getting one for use with my DSLR (though I guess it could also be useful with my Nikon 50ED scope). I'd be interested in your comments.

Hi there, I have just bought a monopod. Went intentsionally to buy a manfrotto, but ended up with a Giottos MML3270B for £32.99. Personally for me the Manfrotto was too heavy and that was without the camera and lens. I also like the quick lever leg locks. I also bought the Manfrotto 234RC Monopod tilt head with quick release for £24 and wouldn't be without it now. Have a look at warehouse express where I got mine.Manfrotto 234RC Monopod Tilt Head with Quick Release (MN234RC) - Warehouse Express

Thanks for your reply Debsie. Think I'll go ahead and go with a monopod. What's your thoughts on a fluid pan and tilt head with a monopod?

Sorry, can't give much info on that as I haven't looked into one. I was going to get a ball head but when I spoke to the people at Warehouse and told them what I wanted it for they told me not to get one for wildlife as you run out of hands and pointed me in the direction of the Manfrotto tilt one even though it was cheaper. I felt then he was giving me good advice and not just trying to sell!! Try giving them a call and telling them what you want to use it for, they're very helpful.

Yes, I can see what you mean about running out of hands (having given it some serious thought). I'm going to check what is available out here in Abu Dhabi then decide what to go for. Given the current weakness of the £ they're probably cheaper at home so I'll probably order one from WE to be sent to my UK address for when I'm home next month. Thanks again for your help.

I bought the cheapest one I could find on Amazon as I had never used one but a photog friend uses one for horse racing meets and swears by them. I've only used this one once and that was in my backyard. I've got a tripod that doesn't get used too.
