Birdwatching in Strangford Lough 21-3-2010

Posted 20-03-10 at 11:22 PM by DorsetBoy

I wanted to do some birdwatching & bird photography today, so I decided to go to nearby Strangford Lough. Shall I go to the Sluice at Newtownards about 5 miles away? No, I'll go towards Comber & head off near Castle Espie. On the way I decided to cut off between N'Ards & Comber & go down near the shoreline. A long narrow road brought me to the N.W. shore of Strangford Lough. The tide was out & so were the birds!
Back along the road & onto Comber & turned off...

Ballymacormick Point.

Posted 15-03-10 at 08:08 PM by DorsetBoy

I went for a walk with my dog to Ballymacormick Point 14-3-2010. Unfortunately, the tide was in...just my luck. I can't always choose the time to go. On the lake were Teal, Pochard, Wigeon, Gadwall, Shoveler, Oystercatcher, G C Grebe, Little Grebe, Shelduck, Coot, Moorhen and numerous B H Gulls. In the marsh area a common Snipe was spotted. At...

A day in superb Wales.

Posted 14-03-10 at 05:23 PM by JONNY74

Set off early yesterday morning with my packed lunch and flask with the intention of a good days birding. Headed to Wales for the day again to see if I could finally see the Surf Scoters on the North Wales coast. And also catch up with Ruth's sneaky Black Redstart from the other week.
Started the day early morning at a location I think is best keep secret for obvious reasons. With the weather the way it was being overcast, cold and quite breezy I was quite surprised at the first real bird...
