We've just had another weekend visit to the Silverdale and Arnside area during the spectacular weather of the last weekend.

We like this area and have spent many weekends around here, but have only recently become interested in Leighton Moss. On Saturday we walked (with bins) through several miles of woodland trails. We didn't see many small birds but did see (we think) a Little Egret and many Buzzards.

Whilst walking back to our camp-site we saw another buzzard circling...

A day at Isle of May

I do not do blogs but thought I would give it a go. Don't expect much.

Set off on Saturday 10th of April 2010 to head for Anstruther. Luckily I woke up just after 6am as I had set my alarm for 6 am but had forgotten to change the clock last week. I thought I woke up just after 5am. Decided to get up anyway and when I thought I had plenty of time, I was suddenly rushing about as I realised what time it really was.
Firstly had to pick up my sister in Barrhead, who was coming...

I have just returned from a family holiday in probably my favorite place in the UK. Fantastic for birding and other wildlife as well. We stayed in a place on the Ardnamurchan peninsular called Glenborrodale. It is a 10 minute ferry journey and an hour or so drive from Fort William. So it is a little bit out of the way with only some small shops around the area.
The week started really well birding wise with 2 Black Guillemots from the short crossing on the Corran ferry. A stunning bird in...

Stanley Park 8

I've been itching to get out and about for ages - it's 6 weeks since I last went birding due to a mixture of work, more work and other commitments.

Finally the day has arrived when I have some time to myself and the weather is actually fine, so I decided to visit my local park and see what was around.

The park is greening up nicely and the heronry is packed to the last twig.

Babies and toddlers were either being pushed in the latest 4 x 4 buggy, or pulled...

Seeing a few more birds.

This winter seems to have lasted a long time (this could be good, I hate it when time flashes by, seeming to fly past all the quicker as we get older).
Our walks in the local park are slowly giving up increasing sightings. The local woodpecker group can be fairly regularly tracked, thanks to their vocal activity.
Still quite thin for smaller birds, although there always seems to be plenty of robins.

Over Easter (between bouts of decorating) we had a few more trips to...
