Brandon Marsh, near Coventry 1
What a weekend it turned out to be.
I originally went home for a family party to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. My Sister and her husband have a pub in Bedworth, so we all gathered there to give Dad a knee's up.
My middle Brother and his wife are expecting a baby in 2 months time, however, she went into labour on the morning of the party, and had a baby boy that evening
Although he's 2 months premature, he's doing really well and came in at 6lb 13oz. He's in an incubator having tests and fluids, but we are told this is routine and he should be able to join Mum & Dad in a couple of days.
The party erupted when we got the news. He's called Nathan Jones and yes, we did sing the well known Bananarama song of the same name on the karaoke
The pub doors were locked and the single malt came out and I'm afraid I had to drag myself to Brandon Marsh the next morning
The marvelous vibration reduction system on the Nikon AF-S lenses couldn't cope
and I spent four hours getting blurry photo's.
I've posted just 2 in the albums.
All of the usual birds were there from Swans, Cormorants and ducks, lots of Redshank, Common Tern nesting on purpose built platforms in the lakes, nesting Lapwing - 2 of which I watched as they mobbed a crow that had landed too close to their chicks, Grebe, Grey Heron, Coots, Moorhens and lots of Azure Damselflies. Off in the distance I heard my first Cuckoo.
The reserve is beautiful and well designed and maintained. There are extensive woodland walks and a good visitors centre with exhibits and displays, a shop and a cafe.
If anyone is in the area, I can definately recommend Brandon Marsh - although not with a hangover on a scorching hot day
Uncle Alan's gone all broody and gaga
