This female Merlin was hunting over the saltmarsh at Aberlady Bay in East Lothian. It was constantly hovering, a behaviour I haven't witnessed before with this species. It suddenly made a short dash and plunged into vegetation, after a short time it flew up with this unlucky Snipe securely in it's talons.

Also managed to get a poor and very hurried shot of a Jack Snipe before it dropped back down into the saltmarsh.

Seen my first Wheatear of the year, a lovely male that nearly landed on my head, good stuff that camouflage netting!!!
10 Whooper Swans and 5 Pink-footed Geese were also present in the bay.

Hadn't been to Aberlady for a while and it was good to be back.

Cheers, John

Great stuff John! I've really got to get a Digital SLR! I've added East Lothian as a tagging option for you.
