Birdwatching in Strangford Lough 21-3-2010

Posted 20-03-10 at 10:22 PM by DorsetBoy

I wanted to do some birdwatching & bird photography today, so I decided to go to nearby Strangford Lough. Shall I go to the Sluice at Newtownards about 5 miles away? No, I'll go towards Comber & head off near Castle Espie. On the way I decided to cut off between N'Ards & Comber & go down near the shoreline. A long narrow road brought me to the N.W. shore of Strangford Lough. The tide was out & so were the birds!
Back along the road & onto Comber & turned off...

Ballymacormick Point.

I went for a walk with my dog to Ballymacormick Point 14-3-2010. Unfortunately, the tide was in...just my luck. I can't always choose the time to go. It didn't bother the dog, though; she headed straight for the water with selective hearing, because she wasn't listening to my calls to get out! I am sure that she gave a wry smile when she emerged from the water all wet & muddy...all I could think about was my car! (it had just got through the MOT & was now red, instead of red & rust...

Kiltonga Wildlife Reserve.

I visited The Kiltonga Wildlife Reserve, near Newtownards yesterday 25th Jan. I have lived in Northern Ireland for 21 years & I have never been there & it's only about 5 miles from my house! I have missed out!
There are quite a nice variety of wildfowl & small birds there across woodland & 2 lakes.
I saw Greylag Geese, Dunnock, Blackbirds, Grey Wagtail, Song Thrush, Various Gulls (including a very obliging Juvenile Black Headed Gull who sat on the footbridge...

Pied Wagtail.

Posted 28-11-09 at 05:05 PM by DorsetBoy

I went for a walk today with my dog in our local park "Linear Park". I suddenly noticed a Pied Wagtail standing on the path about 20 feet in front of me. I stopped & we both observed one another for a quite sometime. It didn't seem at all bothered by my presence & as I had to walk on (slowly) it just hopped about, keeping the same distance from me & then eventually flew away. It was a nice encounter.
