I visited The Kiltonga Wildlife Reserve, near Newtownards yesterday 25th Jan. I have lived in Northern Ireland for 21 years & I have never been there & it's only about 5 miles from my house! I have missed out!
There are quite a nice variety of wildfowl & small birds there across woodland & 2 lakes.
I saw Greylag Geese, Dunnock, Blackbirds, Grey Wagtail, Song Thrush, Various Gulls (including a very obliging Juvenile Black Headed Gull who sat on the footbridge rail quite near to me & posed for a few photo's). There were Mallards & one Juvenile Mute Swan. I didn't see any other swans about so I was left wondering if it was on it's own?
I am going to get down there some Sunday morning, early to avoid the "Bread Throwers".
I had a nice hour or two walking round the lakes.

Nice one Pete, sounds like you enjoyed yourself.

I was exactly the same a year or two ago, just visiting my local park - what you see is what you get. Then I made the effort to visit other places and I was thrilled at the variety of different birds in different habitats.
