Crosby Marine Park 28/11/09

Went to Crosby marina today to catch up with the Grey phalarope as it's only up the road from me. The bird was showing really well on the small boat lake at the north end of the marina. Probably the hardest bird i've ever tried to digiscope as it never sat still for more than a couple of seconds. Saying that the photographers with the 40 foot lenses never helped. Chasing the bird from one end of the lake to other until it flew off and over the fence on to Seaforth NR. Now don't get me wrong i've got nothing against photographers as I like to take photos myself. But it's sad that a certain minority are getting the photographers a bad name by trying to get within a foot of the bird. It seems to be forgotten that whatever happens the welfare of the birds ALWAYS comes first.
. Sorry rant over. Some other good birds on the marina itself including Scaup, Shag, Goldeneye(love these birds), Red breasted merganser and Great crested grebe. All made for a lovely day in the sunshine watching great birds and chatting to some nice people. The Phalarope showed up back on the boat lake as I was leaving about 4 o'clock. So I guess if anyone wants to see this little beauty it should be still there tomorrow.

Yes, we've all seen it at times Ruth with photographers chasing birds trying to get the perfect shot. Exactly the same thing happened when I went up to Southport to see the Shore Lark with some of the same culprits. You see the same faces(and lenses) every time a good bird turns up. It's not just the welfare of the bird they disregard it's all the other proper birdwatchers standing at a safe distance waiting for a glimpse of the bird. Scaring the bird half a mile away or just blatantly walking in your scope view.
. But I must say though not all photographers are the same. Most do follow the wildlife code of conduct. It's just a pity about the select few and they know who they are. Pity we never had photography police, saying that the tabloids would be empty
