Moore NR

Got a chance to get out today after a busy few weeks. So took advantage and headed off early to Moore NR near Warrington. Chose Moore to strengthen my new year list with some woodland species and also the Bittern thats been there the last few weeks. And maybe even the star of the reserve (only my opinion of course) the Lesser spotted woodpecker.
Never got the Bittern or Woodpecker but still got some good woodland birds including my first Treecreeper and Redpoll of the year. There were really good numbers of Redpoll present always nice birds to see. The reserve is a joy for any Gull enthusiasts because as the reserve is next to a rubbish tip it attracts thousands of gulls. There has been a handful of both Med gull and Yellow legged gull this week but it really is like finding a needle in a haystack and takes mountains of time and patience. So hats off to anyone that studies them.
Took a detour on the way home to try and see the reported 40 Crossbill at Delamere forest. Only to be rewarded with a handful of birders watching 3 Firecrest in some low bushes. Only seen 2 myself but what a result and a marvelous end to a pleasant day

List: Moore Nr
Tufted duck
Wigeon
Teal
Gadwall
Shoveler
Gulls everywhere
Curlew
Buzzard
Jay
Redwing
Fieldfare
G.S Woodpecker
Treecreeper
Nuthatch
Redpoll
Bullfinch
Reed bunting.
Delamere:
Firecrest
Redpoll
Bullfinch
