My local Fisheries (2010)
Posted 19-01-10 at 01:10 PM by Little Sparrow
I had a ride to a local Fisheries this morning. My first visit for this year as the the snow and freezing temperatures put paid to an earlier visit. Not a lot about really, Pheasant (1), Crows, Magpies, Starlings, Blue & Great Tits, Blackbird and a small flock each of Green and Goldfinch. It was unusual not to see a Buzzard over the area. I spoke to one of the owners and he told me a Water Hen, funny hearing a Rail called that, had been feeding with the chickens during the freezing weather and snow. The Pools were still partly frozen.
Not much to photograph as the dull light put paid to that, however I thought this photo of horses in one of the paddocks would make a change from birds on my blog. The track in the photo leads down to the Pools.

Your Fisheries look a nice place to visit Judith,I shall look forward to future more productive reports from them as the year progresses.
The photo is a nice one at least the horses look warm and cosy!
I think a Water Hen is an old fashioned name for a Moorhen rather than a Water Rail........don't quote me on that tho!
