The grey clouds of the morning were beginning to part as we set off for a trip to the marsh on Sunday afternoon.
On arrival we were greeted with the stunning sight of over 400 Golden Plover in the grassy fields along with large numbers of Lapwing and Starling. At one point the whole flock lifted en-mass into the air and put on an awesome show of gold and white flashing in the sunshine as they wheeled and turned before settling again on the field.
Also in this area were Curlew and 3

Ballymacormick Point.

Posted 15-03-10 at 08:08 PM by DorsetBoy

I went for a walk with my dog to Ballymacormick Point 14-3-2010. Unfortunately, the tide was in...just my luck. I can't always choose the time to go. It didn't bother the dog, though; she headed straight for the water with selective hearing, because she wasn't listening to my calls to get out! I am sure that she gave a wry smile when she emerged from the water all wet & muddy...all I could think about was my car! (it had just got through the MOT & was now red, instead of red & rust...

The bitterly cold north wind dictated that we visited Hopyards Wood and the Big Wood at Marbury on Saturday afternoon to get some shelter from it's very chilly blast,it worked too as we were nice and warm within the confines of the 2 mixed woods that merge at Marbury Country Park.
A Buzzard was heard and then seen flying between the taller tree trunks before alighting on a bough were it could observe the goings on below it!
We saw a pair of Treecreepers working their way either side

RSPB Sandwell Valley 14/03/10

Posted 14-03-10 at 09:33 PM by Little Sparrow

Paid a short visit to RSPB Sandwell Valley this afternoon. The alterations started at the end of January are still ongoing, a much larger carpark is still to be completed and the garden area is still under construction. It will certainly be a benefit when all alterations and refurbishments are complete. On the lake were Teal, Pochard, Wigeon, Gadwall, Shoveler, Oystercatcher, G C Grebe, Little Grebe, Shelduck, Coot, Moorhen and numerous B H Gulls. In the marsh area a common Snipe was spotted. At...

A day in superb Wales.

Posted 14-03-10 at 05:23 PM by JONNY74

Set off early yesterday morning with my packed lunch and flask with the intention of a good days birding. Headed to Wales for the day again to see if I could finally see the Surf Scoters on the North Wales coast. And also catch up with Ruth's sneaky Black Redstart from the other week.
Started the day early morning at a location I think is best keep secret for obvious reasons. With the weather the way it was being overcast, cold and quite breezy I was quite surprised at the first real bird...
