Longton Marsh & River Douglas, Lancashire

Open water is always a good bet for some decent birding, and given the time of year, I thought it was about time I made the trip to Longton Marsh and the River Douglas.

I was on duty last night, so left straight after work, and met up with Bassist in Longton at around 11.30am. Already knackered, and having just walked for 2 miles with all my kit in what was promising to be the start of summer, Bassist (or Bear Grills from now on!) led the way.

Trekking over fields sodden...

Sea Watch 5/9/09

Posted 06-09-09 at 04:08 PM by JONNY74

Went for a Merseyside coast sea-watch to New Brighton yesterday. A chance to see if I could catch up with any lingering Petrels or Balearic and Sooty Shearwater that had been blown close to the Mersey mouth during Thursdays winds. No luck with the Wilson's Petrel that was seen from Crosby in fact no Petrels at all. But decent all the same.

Gannet- (quite a few far out)
Manx Shearwater-(few but distant)
Common Scoter- 2 (close in on water)
Bar-Tailed Godwit- 4...
