Spring

Spring is well and truely here but the lack of rain has made it difficult for the birds getting worms from lawns, they are back in the garden looking for food. The sunflower hearts are going like hot cakes and the Nijer seed is also being taken by Goldfiches, Greenfinches and Siskins. Underneath the feeders are a lot of seedlings should I leave them and see where Nijer seeds actually come from.
The Dunnocks are quietly feeding a the back of the borders and a single Robin comes to the tables for a few sunflower hearts.
The Blackbird fills his beak fit to burst before flying back to the nest and watch out any other Blackbird should stop for a snack, he or she is very quickly removed.

My Father returned home 9 weeks in hospital, my summer bird watching has been limited but Dad is well again, went off his feet a bit.
Watching the birds in my garden in the evening throughtout the summer kept me sane, I continued to put sunflower hearts out and saw all sorts of babies from Siskins to a baby Robin who cannot put one foot down maybe my cat had something to that.
Will add more interesting things soon.Posted 18-08-10 at 09:32 AM by Shirley Roulston
