Looking at the number of posts per forum section:-

UK and Ireland Bird News 51,165
Bird Chat 19,013
What is that Bird? 10,148
The Nestbox 5,665
Just for Fun 4,993
Places to See Birds 3,052
UK and Ireland Wildlife 1,936
Say Hello! 1,805
International Bird News 1,724
Garden Birds 1,554
World Birds 981
Bird Photography 903
Birdwatching Equipment 824
Bird Books 618
New Features and Improvements 508
Springwatch 500
Environmental Issues and Campaigns 220
Birding Directory 214
World Wildlife 197
Autumnwatch 140
Emergency Bird Help 79
Educational Projects 33
BTO Garden BirdWatch 12
Bird Atlas 2007-11 7

Excluding the "robot" posts in the "UK and Ireland Bird News" section, it is obvious that "Bird Chat is in first place and "What is that Bird" is second showing the importance of having this facility on the forum.

Having the Nestbox in next place shows to me how important it is to be able to discuss virtually random stuff with forum members is. This is where the community comes from. For me it's very important.

The next most posted section is "Just for Fun" shows how much this section is valued and participated in.

I can't see how this could be improved beyond perhaps removing some of the infrequently used sections.

My thoughts are 'If it isn't broken, don't fix it'.

How do you think the forum structure could be imoroved Neil?

Edit: I have just read your other post about forum structure Neil. I will wait with bated breath to see the upgrade.

Thumbs up Forum Structure thoughts

My thoughts are that it just needs a bit of tweaking - nothing major.

I have a document I am working on with the structure - looks quite like it does now.

I'll share it with you soon!

Question Breaking it down

Thinking about why people come to the Forum, here are my thoughts...

Core Concept

Discuss
- Chat about bird related topics, equipment etc

Display
- Show off your photos, projects or other inspirational stuff.

Discover
- Find new stuff in the Directory, places to see birds, equipment guide etc that you didn't know about. Be able to comment about these.

Get Help
- Get assistance with injured birds, academic projects, hands on conservation etc

Network
- Meet new people, organise trips etc

Thinking of it this way kind of breaks it in to Forum categories quite nicely.

Any thoughts?

Thumbs up Feedback

Thanks Joe,

Some good suggestions there which I will incorporate. Used kit is a good one since it could be less hassle than eBay!

It doesn't need much change just a little bit more focus I feel.

I want people to arrive here and be able to find exactly the right place to be quickly.

We're getting there!

I like this core concept and the ideas Joe as put across I do like the Critique for Photography images idea as I am always trying to get better bird pictures.
