What an experiance

Went into garden this morning at 8.15 would you believe it cloudy

but set my camera up and went in for a coffee, by 9.15 was watching

the telly and the great sightings from Plymouth to the Faroe island

as it was approaching 9.35 I went out and could not believe it, the

clods had breaks in them, and I got my first look at an Eclipse took

loads of shots, and as it nearly got dark the birds all went quite but as soon

as it started to get light we had another dawn chorus what an experience.

I definitely had a better view of the eclipse today than in 1999 but the overall experience didn't seem as good as the total darkness that year.

Other than a singing robin, there was no noticeable effect on the birds where I was, but it didn't really get very dark here.

I made the mistake - along with many others - of heading for the beach thinking the top of a tall dune would make a great viewpoint.

Oh dear. By nine o'clock the cloud cover was completely unbroken and it stayed that way most of the day. Nary a glimpse of the sun did we see. All that happened was that a grey day got slightly greyer for a while. Ah well. I did feel sorry for those who'd turned out with some very fancy optics and camera equipment though.

We got about a minute or two of it though the clouds. No real darkening and the birds continued as normal.

This is it above the steps up to Wilstone Reservoir.

We were REALLY lucky, blue skies and not a cloud in sight so got the full effect of the eclipse.

It did go pretty dark and all the birds went quiet. Its just a shame there's a bank of trees next to the house which obscured our view of the sun itself.
