Red face Bird box rooster

This year I had several bird boxes in the garden, two of which I had web cams in. Unfortunately, although we had two successful pairs of breeding blue tits, they chose not to use the boxes that I had cameras in! Still, I guess that's the luck of the draw.

Now at the end of July when I'm thinking about taking the cameras out, I get a rooster, and not a Blue Tit, but a Coal Tit. Not quite as good as getting a breeding pair but I guess that it's something.

Here's the link if you want to take a look:

You won't be able to see the image after sunset.

He usually arrives in between 7.30 and 8.00 pm. Don't know when he gets up in the morning, but it's way before me.

I didn't have any birds nesting in any of my boxes this year, Simon! I have had and are still having a few fledglings and juveniles which is great to see.

I will check your webcam tomorrow evening as I am too late tonight..tis dark!

Sorry, I forgot to say that you'd need to install the active-x controlls to see the image. Your browser should pop up a prompt asking you if you want to do this when you visit the site for the first time. This is because you're accessing the camera directly, not an image that's been uploaded to a server.

Simon.

No, nothing technical. Just select "yes" when your browser asks you if you want to install the active-x. It is completely safe.

I managed to take a few screen shots of my rooster when he came in today, and as you can see from the attached images it's not a Coal Tit but a young Great Tit. It was a bit difficult to tell when he was fluffed up with his head under his wing - well that's my excuse anyway.

I'm just a bit surprised that any bird has taken to roosting in a box during the Summer. He arrives every day at about the same time and it then fluffed up with his head under his wing in less than a minute.
