Yes they came back today, much to the annoyance of my regular residents. They managed to flush the Little Owl out of it's tree and the Blackbirds were not at all happy. Gave me something to watch as I've been at home all day suffering man flu. (Insert sympathy here).

An old friend has at long last made a comeback. Saw this Greenfinch this morning. I thought I'd spotted one late autumn last Year but it didn't hang around for long. This one seems to be staying for a while!!! Update on "One Eye" Sparrowhawk, He has a "girlfriend"!!! Saw them together on an old bit of fencing in the field behind us. Too far away for my humble camera!! Oh for a decent one !!!!! Had the "Tawny" in the Oak tree beside the drive every night for the last week or so. Eerie in the murky fog that's hanging round.

I had a single Fieldfare in my garden this afternoon, all the apples had been eaten but hopefully one or more will return tomorrow when the tree is replenished. The problem with Fieldfares is that they are so feisty and will take on any bird that dares to go near it's chosen food!

Hope you are feeling much better today Peter.

Thanks, I am 99% rid of this cold. I am keeping the 1% for sympathy gathering reasons.

Default Sad End!!!

Just found this in the garden this afternoon when clearing a "fallow" area ready to redesign the area. They aren't my best friends but finding this was a bit upsetting. Sad end to a beautiful bird. Couldn't see anything obviously wrong with it, both wings intact and it's neck looked OK, and there was no obvious signs of blood loss. I think that it had just got stuck in the overgrown brambles that I had to cut away to take the first shot. Gave it a decent burial in a quiet corner. My guess, by the way, after studying my books is that it's a juvenile male, but I wouldn't mind being corrected!!

DUCKS!!

I had a pair of Mallard land in the Garden today, look around for 10 minutes and flew out again. My garden was obviously not seen as worthy however it was a first and therefore a garden tick.

Had a wonder round the edge of the garden and a good look just over the fence into the thickly densed over grown area just over the fence in the corner and got the shock of my life to find a ref fox sitting there just staring straight at me after a few minutes it decided to just get up and walk off very calmly just as if I wasn't there, but back to the thread I have now found 5 nesting or started nests in the garden or boxes.
In boxes 1 x Robin, 1 x Blue Tit, 1 x Starling.
In the big bush at the rear of the garden we have ablackbird nesting.
In the old conifer we have Collard Dove.
In the field directly behind my back garden fence we have a great 2 nests we have in a old oak tree a Buzzard and just a bit further along we have aTree Sparrow nesting for the third year running.

Do any of you have any nesting birds in your garden or near by please don't give location just in case
