Default Magpie attack

We have Blackbird nesting in the Ivy on the shed, the chicks hatched about two weeks ago and you can hear them Chirping away when mum and dad take food in . This morning there was a right commotion, a Magpie had got into the nest and dragged one of the chicks out. My husband ( who has come quite attached to these birds) chased the Magpie off and it dropped the chick. Mum and dad chased after the Magpie, the chick was sat on the ground a little stunned but still chirping, they are quite big starting to get there feathers. We scooped him/ her up and put it back in the nest. Had to go to work, when I got home I was fearing the worst but not to worry I can hear the chicks and I have seen mum and dad taking food in. I think the Magpie will be back as they don't give up that easily.

There always seems to be highs and lows when birds nest in your garden. Lucky that you were around when the Magpie attacked the nest and that you saved the chick Amanda.

Turns out the Magpie had another go after I left, my husband had to chase it off. Kept a eye on them all day, both mum and dad feeding chicks.

Good story Amanda. This bird babysitting does get you worried at times.

Hope the Magpies find something else to take their interest away from chicks.

Keep up the good work Amanda!! They will appreciate it! Some Blackbirds in my Bay Tree have fledged 3 days ago so they will soon.
