Default Crushed nuts anyone?

After a couple of years hanging out peanuts, mixed nuts, sunflower hearts and "robin food" we finally found that the Tits love the crushed nuts that we buy from our local market stall. I'm pretty sure that the nuts are walnuts, nice and oily looking.

We hang out other things from time to time, these just rot in the feeders with very little being taken out.

The half dozen pairs of Blue tits and Coal tits that feed regularly don't seem to wish to try anything else. My guess is that there are gourmet dining opportunities in nearby gardens.

Today we shopped and tried to stock up (they don't use much, a couple of pounds will last all winter (unless the starlings find them).

The stall holder said that they can't get them anymore and that all nuts will cost more in the future. They believe that it has been a bad year for nut growers and that lots of stock is being bought up by China for bio-fuel production. I don't know how much of this is true, but she says not to expect to see them in the near future.

So, I'm looking for a chance to stock up for winter with the only nut feed that the fussy eaters will take, crushed walnuts. Does anyone know of a source?

Dave..

Edit. We asked around and learned that the nuts were Pecans, very like walnuts perhaps.
