Default New additions to your garden

During the last week or so we have had visits from the following fledgings and their parents - Goldfinches, Great tits, Blue tits, Sparrows, Starlings, Woodpigeon, Collared dove, and Dunnock. I think this is the most number of fledgings we have had to date and we have yet to see the baby Robins and Blackbirds which are regulars every year. Also waiting for Chaffinch babies and Greenfinches, regular visitors in pairs to the feeders this year and judging by the time between visits, residing not too far away. Wondering if your numbers of fledgings are up this year?

Can't compare to last year as I'd only just started birding in late March and was not really paying attention then!

So far this year I've had 1 young Chaffinch, who stayed in the tree while Dad came to the feeders and took food back for him. About 4 young Starlings who devour the fat balls, and approximately 6 young House Sparrows that fight with the Starlings for the fat balls.

I've also had a noticeable sharp increase in visiting Blue tit and I suspect the young aren't too far away. Also regular Greenfinch, Great tit, Collared doves, Goldfinch, Blackbird and an ocassional Magpie and Dunnock - but haven't seen any of these chicks yet.

4 juvenile Goldfinch in the garden yesterday, not on the feeders, but in an area of long grass and bushes.

For the second time only, I have had a visit from a male Bullfinch. Busy working away on the computer, looked up and there he was on the mesh tray on the feeder pole. He then flew to the tree nearby and gave really good views for two minutes before flying off. Checked in my book and last had a visit from him, or one very similar, on 26th June 2007!
Amost a regular!!

There's been an osprey over the weekend at Belvide reservoir just a mile away from me. I keep looking at the garden pond but nothing yet!

Not fledglings ~ but the next best thing, maybe? Couple of hours ago now I glanced out the window and saw a Linnet, not six foot away, gathering Dog hairs for her nest! Better still, the male bird turned up moments later

Not sure what this may mean to others? But, I haven't seen a handful of Linnets in the last thirty years! Saw swarms of them, back then. So I actually consider them a 'rare' bird, on my year to year sightings list.

Now, to know they're building in some hedge within a hundred yards of this cottage is amazing! (Down side is the sheer yardage of hedges within a hundred yards of this ....! I'll probably never find them )
