Hi Paul, Just read you might be going to mid Wales in the future. I've been to Grigians red kite feeding farm a few times and it's amazing. I believe it's now £4 to get in but well worth it. The only problem I found was the hides! they have a small window access and although great for getting the kites and buzzards as they come down to get the food (very quickly I might add), it's really difficult to get them in the air. The last time we went I paid £15 and went the the open hide. This one stands above the other hides and is totally open, which is great for the ground and air shots as they fly straight towards you and you can move around. The last time we went there was only 2 of us in there, but the other hides were packed as most days they have a coach booked in!!. I'll put one of photo's on so you can see the photo's you'll be able to get from the top hide. Debbie.
You haven't caused any confusion - that already existed. there have been 2 or 3 occasions when I've have mixed up curlew and whimbrel ID's.
I won't go so far as to put a dunces cap on like Peter though!
You could be right about the whimbrel pic - usually I get corrected whenever I ID curlew or whimbrel. I can't see an eye stripe so maybe it is a curlew.
Only one cure for lack of experience, Paul!
One good way to accelerate the process though would be to go bird-watching
with someone who knows their birds. Works wonders.
