Don't just take my word for it being a Curlew, i am not that good at ID on birds, so seek an opinion from someone who knows more about birds.
Sorry if i caused any confusion.

    Best regards Paul

Although the wildlife is great over there, it must be a wrench being away from family and friends, so have a great time while your home. A little advice, pack some sun in the suitcase or the cold weather here might be a bit of a shock to your system.

My target for the trip was to visit Sizergh for the Hawfinches and to get stuck into the garden. Acheived both.

I'd read that the Hawfinches were showing well at Sizergh on the South Cumbria Birding blog so it was with great expectancy that I visited on the penultimate day of my trip home. I was not disappointed. I'd been there less than 5 minutes when the first appeared, then a second and a third. A separate group of seven then gathered at the opposite side of the car park -...

Well I've finally got round to summarising my 2nd week home.

Good intentions to visit Saltholme to see the long eared owls and/or Cowpen Bewley Country Park to see the ring necked duck didn't happen due to family commitments during my visit to Teesside, and even a visit to Fairburn Ings much closer to home didn't materialise (short eared owls) due to lack of time.

My search for waxwings in the York area continued to frustrate me - well I guess I may be lucky next year....

Arrived at Humberside on 07 January to wind, rain and sleet, and it felt extremely cold - after all I'd just left a pleasant 25 degrees and sun behind. Thank God I'd missed the December Arctic blast.

As usual I didn't manage to get as much birding in as I would have liked, but I had some great local sightings.

Regular daily garden visitors included:

8-10 goldfinches
2 greenfinches,
numerous chaffinches
4 dunnock
5-6 blackbirds...
