    Hi
I wanted to ask a question for my first message if I can.

I've been delighted to have a pair of blackcaps in my garden all winter. I'd never seen blackcaps before. We are in Hampshire and I don't think they over-winter here very often (but I could be wrong). Their song is beautiful. You can imagine my dismay when I found the male dead. I think it had flown into a window. We immediately bought some birds of prey stickers for all the windows. However, I was wondering what will happen to the female. She sang for her absent partner for a couple of days and now seems to have moved on. Is she likely to find another mate at this stage in the year (the male probably died last Friday)?

Well, the blackcaps which frequented our garden all winter have disappeared, presumably into woodland where they normally live. Meanwhile, delighted to have daily visits from a great spotted woodpecker. He loves my homemade suet blocks (I've mixed in some grubs). Also doing our bit to help the sparrow population - we've at least a couple of dozen nesting in/near us and spending quite a lot of time on our feeders.

Can anyone identify a bird for us? We were walking onto Exmoor...
