No problem!! gulls are tricky, and herring/LBB are the easiest to confuse of the 'bigger' gulls because they're so similar in size and shape. I'm lucky in that both species are very common in central Bristol, where I work, and they often appear together, so comparison is easier.

A herring gull has pink legs and a much paler body than the LBB, and there is a very noticeable contrast between the grey wings and black wing tips, which isn't as noticeable on a LBB.

Then you get Yellow Legged Gulls, which are pale like a herring gull, but have yellow legs! I haven't been fortunate enough to see one of those yet though, they're quite scarce in the UK.

    Hope that helps,

Hi thank you for the kind comments, really appreciate it. I always tend to make sure EXIF is available as i find it really valuable, especially when you see a shot & think... I WANT ONE.

Do you use flickr at all? I find a fair bit of inspiration on there when trying to think of the one shot that hasn't been done

Just found that it is only possible to attach 5 photos to one blog, I dont want to delete the other photos so started another blog.

Thursday 14 April

Went for the usual walk around Tayport, armed with bread and water for the nesting swan at the harbour, this time we have a bottle of water to top up the drinking container.
Once at the harbour we notice that both parents are at the nest, pen and cob. (Photo 1)
Both swans have been well fed and there is plenty...

I haved lived inTayport for over 8 years and for the last 4 years I have noticed a pair of swans nesting next to the harbour.
The nest site has always been on a small scrap of grass between houses, flats and a very busy public path, well used with walkers with dogs.
You can see how close the nest site is to houses in some of the photos attached.

Finally made it back, 3 weeks of kicking sand in the desert.
Will someone come and kick my ass and get me out of the front door.
Its so cold, wet and grey outside.
The camera is packed, the car has fuel, just need to wrap up and brave it.
