Default Tourist Info!

While I was watching a dapper Grey Wagtail this morning this structure was looming behind me.....I thought the reflections of it into the basin in the foreground made for a nice photo.
It is a boat lift.....boats are lifted down (& up from) to the River Weaver below via the 2 water filled tanks that you can see in the middle of the structure.
A fascinating piece of engineering that attracts lots of tourists to our part of Cheshire.
More info here.

I've always wanted to visit the Anderton boat lift but despite commuting regularly to Manchester for 25 years never took the time.

It's on my list with about 20 other places and that's just the UK.

When I lived in Warrington I visited the boat lift a couple of times - very ingenious piece of engineering. Couple of pics attached.
