Default Don't Shoot the Messenger!!!

I picked the wrong time to walk into the village this morning.
A car ahead of me up the road ran over and killed a cat.
The driver stopped and got out, quite obviously distressed and was wandering around wondering what to do when I caught him up.
I checked the cat was dead and offered to knock on some doors for him.
I picked the nearest house, knocked and asked if they had a black and white cat?
The girl screamed hysterically while her hubby pushed past me saying " you b***** you've killed my f****** cat"!
I came home in tears.......without me shopping.
Talk about not shooting the messenger!
I spose it was the shock tho.

I was going to suggest dropping them a note once they have calmed down but if you got that reaction it may not do anything. You did right, that's what matters.

On my way into the village later I'm going to drop an explanitory note off at the house of the cat owners as it's been on my mind that they probably didn't realise that I was walking and think that I was with the driver of the car and therefore responsible for the death of their cat.
I'll feel better when I explain that I was only trying to help both the cat and driver......oh dear....I wish I wasn't so conscientious at timies!

It's the right thing to do.

Oh dear. Poor you (and how sad...). But what about the driver? How come he didn't talk to the owners at all? He must still have been there when the owners went to see their cat?

The car driver stayed in the road.....(I was at their door).....and got a stream of abuse too from the man as he picked up the dead cat. The driver thanked me for my help and then drove off......all very sad.
