Default Reasons to be cheerful...

I tend not to be the most optimistic of people; glass half empty etc..., especially at this time of year as we await the clocks going back with the onset of minimal daylight and - erm - "forgettable" weather.

Then I come across something that makes even me smile. Today it happened during a walk around Silverhill Wood near Mansfield. Generally I'm not optimistic regarding the future of the environment, but I'd like to shake the hand of whoever planned the tree planting on this reclaimed colliery site. Just two examples:

Well, would you believe this used to be a spoil heap?

That is a fantastic sight and you have to think it deliberate planting. I hope it stays off the planners sights.

Lovely sight Tony. I bet the woodland trust was involved in the planning.

A feast for the eyes and heart-warming to hear what used to be there! well done to whoever had the foresight to reclaim the site!

Thanks for sharing Tony!
