Default Lunderston Bay

Good Morning,

My Mum and drove over to Lunderston Bay (Between Gourock and Inverkip) We first saw a Buzzard as we crossed the Erskine Bridge.

In the Bay itself was 4 Shelducks, 4 Mallards, 5 Wigeon, 12 Redshank, possibly 6 Curlews, 2 Ringed Plover, loads of Oystercatchers, 12 Eider offshore and various Gulls. We also saw a Pied Wagtail, Robin, Meadow Pipits and a Rock Pipit.

It's signposted from the A770 and A78. We can also recommend the Garden Centre opposite the Bay for Excellent Hot Drinks and refreshments etc.

Best Wishes

Jonathan Anderson

That's sounds like a good place to go when the weather clears up.
Didn't realise it was so near Loch Winnoch.
Might take a wee detour there some day soon.

Default Lunderston Bay

Thanks Guys for the warm welcome and feedback regarding Lunderston Bay. It might be wise to avoid the bay at Summertime. The Reason It's the nearest sandy beach to Glasgow (on the south side)

Best wishes

Jonathan

Welcome from me too, Jonathan! A good selection of species you saw at Lunderston Bay. Glad you had a good day and found a good place for refreshments!

Hi Johnnie,

we seem to frequent the same birding spots, I also read your post on Mugdock Country Park which is great for a nice walk and a bit of birding.

Lunderston Bay is very good or waders and wildfowl, last time we were there we saw 8 curlews, eider ducks, lapwing, greenfinches and more redshanks than we could count.
What I didn't see was the plovers but that's good news that you've seen some, I might try and get down there soon to see them.

I would recommend Ardmore Point, if you haven't been already, it's between Helensburgh and cardross and is great for a variety of birds, I saw a black gulliemot off the coast, and a slavonian grebe which was very close to the shore, great crested grebe, gannet, cormorants and my first chiffchaff of the year.
