Default Cors Dyfi,Osprey Project,Powys,Wales.

Cors Dyfi,Osprey Project,Powys,Wales.

This nature reserve is just a few miles up the road from RSPB Ynis-Hir so well worth a visit when passing.
It is very well organised with a fantastic viewing hide, knowledgable wardens on hand to answer any questions and to help with ID's etc,a live camera feed on the nest and TV screens showing recorded footage.
Unfortunately this year the female Osprey hasn't been able to attract a mate so all though we saw the nest she wasn't in view on the 2 occasions that we visited over the weekend.
It was still worth the visit tho as the views from the hide are amazing and the walk out on the boardwalks brought some good views of various Warblers,Damselflies,Chasers,Butterflies and even Water Buffalo as well as some stunning scenery!

Birds seen;

Willow Warbler
Blackbird
Jay
Sedge Warbler
Reed Warbler
Cuckoo (heard)
Swallow
Chaffinch
G.B.B.Gull
Jackdaw

I missed this post of yours yesterday, Ruth! It looks a super reserve, a pity you didn't see the Osprey though! What a shame she hasn't a mate. Great pics and interesting information for future reference. Love the Buffalo!

Thanks, Ruth!

Thanks Judith.....the Buffalo was awesome he was lying down and as we approached hauled himself to his feet.......so I took his pic for making an effort! lol

I'm sure that she will soon attract a mate.....they said she was fussy as has had a choice of 3 this year but turned them all down!!

A fascinating reserve tho despite the lack of Ospreys.......& worth calling for the views alone!

Red face

Sorry you missed out on the ospreys Ruth. Sounds like you had a good time anyway at what seems to be a smashing nature reserve.

We knew that it was an off chance Ian with the female being on her own and not at the nest site......worth a try tho and as you say we've discovered a smashing new reserve!
Will try for the pair of Ospreys at Glaslyn in a few weeks when in North Wales!

Ruth. Is that the actual nest of the Osprey?

Maybe the guys are just not giving her the best of fish.

It's a model of a full size Osprey nest Maggie, about 4' sq........the actual nest was 1/2 a mile away high up on a pole!
She always has it in her sight,as a few days prior to our visit 2 Canada Geese decided to use it......apparently pandemonium ensued for a while!!!!!
