Default A sunny walk!

What a glorious day it has/is today! I went out early this morning for a walk (8.15, well fairly early) and the first bird I heard was a Skylark singing high in the sky and then 2 Yellowhammers flew over the hedgerow. Further on the walk I saw my first Brambling (male)in this area, I was really pleased with this sighting. It was feeding with Siskins in the tops of the Alders. There may have been more Bramblings but my neck ached looking high up into the trees so I carried on with my walk. Birds seen today along with the above were the usual Corvids, G S Woodpecker, Blue, Great and Coal Tit, Mistle Thrush, Wren, Pied Wagtail, Stock Dove, Buzzard, Mallard, Coot, Canada Geese, Mute Swan and a first sighting in this area of a pair of Goosanders on the lake! Green Woodpecker heard only. I also saw my first of the year Comma Butterfly and later in my garden this afternoon I have had a Comma and a Peacock Butterfly!! Two Butterflies that were a pleasure to see!

A good walk Judith. I had flocks of Skylarks flying over the garden today as the farmers are seeding the fields and disturbing them.

Sounds like you had a great walk today Judith I had a day sorting the garden out as the weather was so good. I am hoping to get out tomorrow fingers crossed. Not sure where I will be going maybe to Twinbury reserve as I want to see if I can get a good photo of a Snipe that seems to be there a lot at the moment.

That must have been a lovely sight with the Skylarks Peter. I bet there were a few Corvids following the tractors in the fields!

I was thrilled with the Brambling Ruth, not my first of the year but a new one on my list in this area. The Comma ignored my pleas for it to find a prettier resting place so that I could get a more scenic pic of it! Nevertheless the sighting alone was a joy for me!

Great news with the Yellowhammers Stuart and the Brimstones! Now Brimstones are a tricky one to get a pic of, they are a bit like Goldcrests and never seem to settle for long.
