Well all that for nothing. I never actually went to Llyn Alaw. But I did get to Pentreath for the Hoopoe, as well a lot of the coastal sites.

Is that the place where "Stumpy" is? The one that was on Autumn Watch?

Maggie - Sorry I dont know if its where "Stumpy" lives.

Ruth - Only record shots, it just wouldn't come within range for a good shot. But I've attached one anyway.

astafjevs - Point Lynas gave great views of summer plumaged Black Guillemot and Red-throated Diver untill the Jet-skis came out in the bay.
South Stack had all the usual suspects but I could only find 1Puffin.
Penrhos yeilded Whimbrel, Brent Goose, Redshank, Common Sandpiper, Curlew, Oystercatcher, Turnstone etc.
Cemlyn Bay was the highlight of the trip, as you would excpect , it never fails to produce a good long list of birds, at one point we had a Lesser Whitethroat and a Common Whitethroat singing from either side of the same gorse bush.

A great species list and a great photo of the Hoopoe Merlin! I would be well pleased with that image. The Terns will be returning to Cemlyn soon and what a spectacle they are! Glad you had a good trip Merlin!

Little Sparrow - The Sandwich Terns are already there displaying noisily over the lagoon
Peter - Its one of many very good birding sites across Anglesey, in fact a vist to North Wales in general should boost your list with a bit of luck. (and a litle inside info )

Whenever we make the trip over there to see the sister-in-law we always zig-zag across the moors to the A5 from Queensferry rather than trudge round the A55. Its great to take your foot off the gas and do a little raptor watching from the car. (Due to the time of year and the sensative nature of birds of prey on moorlands I wont give the exact route we took). This time we came across, Kestrel, Buzzard, female Hen Harrier and a pair of Red Kites feastng on sheep placenta. For the 1st time, at this time of year, we didn't see any Short-eared Owls but a nice male Ring Ouzel kinda made up for it.
