Smile Weir Wood Reservoir East Sussex

In Ashdown Forest, near East Grinstead there is large reservoir called Weir Wood Reservoir and at the western end of the reservoir is a Local Nature Reserve (LNR).

There are a breeding colony of Great Crested Grebes and migrating Ospreys can be seen in the Spring and Autumn. The area now occupied by the reservoir used to be a river valley and was home to an ironworks in Roman times.

The reservoir was completed in 1953 and is owned by Southern Water.

The nature reserve has a car park where there is a hide and a feeding station for wild birds. There are various footpaths for you to take to explore the surrounding area.

For more information visit Friends of Weir Wood.
